I will likely be attending a barbecue today. I live at the West Virginia Veterans Home, where I am chaplain. A church group is coming in today that usually sings several songs and preaches a message. My understanding is that during the summer they often barbecue and some of the guys are expecting that they will do so today as well. The weather in West Virginia is beautiful now unless it comes a thunderstorm and none of those are in the forecast for my area. So I suspect the men are correct and we will barbecue today. This is a barbecue I look forward to attending. There is a barbecue I wish to avoid though. This barbecue is the one that will be attended by unbelievers after they die. They will be the food for this barbecue but they will never be done cooking and they will be aware of themselves cooking the whole time. Of course I am talking about the second death known commonly as hell. So many preachers avoid the subject of hell today but hell is a very real place and nobody escapes it. Once a person dies without a relationship with Jesus they go to hell and there is where they will be forever. The fire there never goes out and the people there are in agony as they burn forever. Why would a loving God place anybody in hell? God doesn't place anybody there. People choose to go there when they reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God has made provisions so that none need to go to hell. God however is a just God just as much as He is a merciful God. The just aspect of Him requires a price for sin. Refusal of the atoning blood of Jesus leaves God no alternative than to demand a soul.
