The "Blogging Circle of Friends DAY 2044
Solstice or Winter Solstice... depending on where you live. What traditions are you aware of for either the summer or winter? Do you partake in any personally? If you want to create a poem or story about either.

Summer Solstice

The year divided into four:
Spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Celebrating each seasonal change
became important in agrarian societies,
and in the religions those societies espoused.

I don't celebrate three out of the four seasonal changes, as anything other than the official transition from one season to the next. If I commemorate the solstices or the autumnal equinox, I do it in a poem. I celebrate the vernal equinox because it is the beginning of the Baha'i year, and the holy day of Naw-Ruz. I research the solstices and the equinoxes for poems, and read scientific articles online about those days.

The "Blogging Circle of Friends prompt for Day 1647
Write a Blog entry about a Hope Chest.

Hope Chest

I had a hope chest once,
it was fashionable when I was in Junior High
to begin collecting items
you would need when you started your married life.

It was also fashionable
to get married
as soon as you graduated
from High School.

What was in my hope chest?
A few little things
to decorate my new home
whenever I found someone
who wanted to marry me.

What happened to my hope chest?
Lost
in one of my many moves
over the years.
