Pie and whisky (27 line free verse)
Pie and whisky

Squish a squash.
Add spices
unused since last year.
Add cream
or eggs
or —
whatever.
Can't find the recipe?
Take a shot.
Then take another.
Then pour the slush into a shell.
Bake until done.
Forget until black.
Take one bite.
Throw out the rest.
Throw back a shot.
Go back to the store.
Buy a mix.
Follow directions?
Read ingredients?
Calories don't matter —
when you forget to count them.
Take another shot.
Better, add one.
When done
cool your pie on a counter —
where the dog will surely find it.
