The Absence of You

In the silence of the night
when the cares of the day are still,
when the voice of guilt is mute,
when the demands of the day are gone
I feel your absence
and I weep.

In the chaos of the day
when voice of desire is hushed,
when my time is owed to others,
when the phone rings,
when the doorbell sounds,
when someone else is present
I drown the absence of you
in work.
