A lingering smell of tobacco,
a gossamer haze in the air,
like a flickering light
    in the darkness,
a memory reveals itself…

that coalesce around emotions.

Tears for a father who was
never there.

Tears for a mother whose
life was bare.

Tears for a son who learned
not to care.
