Feeding Body and Soul
Do you feed your body but starve your soul?

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

I have a feeling this won't be a very encouraging blog post. It's one of those self-examination things. Obviously, in order to survive, we do need to feed our bodies. We usually tend to make time for this in our busy lives, because we get grumbly tummies if we neglect it.

What happens if we don't feed our souls every day? Well, that depends. If you are someone who has conditioned yourself to nourish your soul with prayer and time in the word daily, you will notice if a day comes that you are not able to do that.

This is why daily time with God is so important because, without it, it won't bother us at all if we go a day without feeding our souls. Maybe we could go a week...a month... a year?

I recently fell into that trap. I used to make time for God's word every day, and then something happened and I found more and more often I was too busy to do it, or by the time I thought about it, I was too tired. So, weeks went by and I continued on with my busy life and I was only feeding my body. Getting back to my Bible, and regular prayer became something that I had on my "to-do" list, but days and days went by...

The last few days, I've pushed other things aside to spend time with my God. Those other things are always less important than being near Him, it was time I acted like it.

So, do I feed my body, but starve my soul?

Sadly, yes...sometimes I do. It's a good thing I serve a big God who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in faithful love.
