Intruder
The window was open, the screen cut. Someone was in the house. Cold fear rolled over me.

I could hear muffled sounds coming from downstairs. Did I dare venture down there?

My daughter’s screams cut the air. I moved without thinking. Entering the kitchen just as the intruder dragged my child outside. Before I could grab her shots rang out and I dropped to the floor. Blood seeping from a hole in my chest.
