To be rebarned

         for Arild

All glory fades,
then's sold: old rags,
old logs, spare thoughts,
and what-once-was,
and now is not.

Like stout barns built
for an age long past
or ages to come:
for cows, for hay,
for modern art.

Each with a story,
unique and yet ...
so much the same,
abandoned to rot,
perchance with luck

to be rebarned.
