But in the end, a passing thing

The sky remained empty
beyond the crescent moons
as blue shadows passed between us,
as years of nothingness froze over.

All life now hung in balance
in crevices it had sought
as you held me closer,
as if hugs would somehow warm me

until the globe came back,
that glow above the edge of mystery,
as song filled the emptiness,
as I awakened in your arms, still wrapped.

The moons began to fade
forsaking shadows they once had cast
as basking in first light we whispered,
for even darkness must surely pass.
