Where we left love
We were full of the arrogance of youth
that makes promises time cannot keep
our dreams were too big to fit into
that cold-water flat in Montmartre

The chairs are empty in the cafe
the street is silent, no longer full
of boasts and toasts from would-be Van Goghs
instead, there’s an echo of longing

Perhaps someday, is what we say
when we meet, ashamed of our inconstancy
Perhaps someday, when we’re old
there will be a window overlooking yesterday
