Spring's Passing Parade
Time seems to stand still as I look up,
Up into the clearest of skies
Blue as far as the eye can see
The wind ruffles my hair
I close my eyes a moment to bask in the warmth
Of a new spring day
When I open my eyes a parade of passing Picassos
Prances before me
Each morphing moment by moment
Taking shape from one thing to another
As they coast along the horizon.
I watch mesmerised
As one long eared rabbit
Shifts and stretches into
An extraordinary looking
Bear whose mouth gapes open.
Wind circles and swirls
Dragging the creature out of shape
Before morphing again
Into a horse with strong powerful legs
I want to climb onto his back
And ride like the wind
But even before the thought
Touches down
I am taken up again
As the view before me grows darker
And a menacing face peers down at me.
I shudder and hurry for shelter
Gone is the wispy trails of light and shadow
Now in the growing dim
The shapes descend and band together
Making the day change from light and airy
Into one of storms and bluster.
Just another Canadian day...
Give it a minute
There may be more blue sky
Or a torrent of cascading water
Pummeling the earth with a frenzy
Only spring can know.
