Writing for the Deadline
Hurry up to get it down.
Write, and write, again.
Edit 'til the weary frown
will finally let you win.

Word Count: Ever-present foe,
insatiable its gut.
This task doth not a subject know.
Each bard must crack this nut.

A poem of a springtime flower.
Essays teach of God.
Novels must have lasting power
to make all eyes applaud.

The Israelites must find their straw,
complete their tale of bricks,
but writing ever has a law,
"Get focus! Get it quick!"

The deadline barks as writers jump,
"2000 in a day!"
The ready pen will noggin thump,
demanding best display.

So, hurry up or not at all.
Just write and write, again.
"You've got a job!" it ever calls.
"You're paycheck has to win!"

Some day we'll write to edify,
but now, "Just get 'er done!"
The deadline barks. We must comply
with subject best or none.
