Sincerity is key here. This works. Sometimes someone will surprise me with words meant to injure. Answering words suddenly fly from my mouth I did not even think about. It makes me want to say, "Hi Lord, I'm so glad you are with me."

And don't believe that psychological explanation that you are talking to yourself. The only people who believe that have not lived with the Holy spirit.
