Forgiveness
Snow cascades gently covering all
The dark asphalt memory
Fades into white as snowflakes fall
Ice covers the blood of treachery

The snow grows deep the wind swirls
Filled with icy taunts
Angry words like swords twirl
Carried by pale ghosts that haunt

Apparitions slip into the dim light
Like chalk into the pallid ground
They fade from sight
And the wind changes it's sound

Love covers over many sins
I heard a wise man say
Today I feel that life begins
To forget the evil of another day

The dead are gone and their crimes
Are hidden now from view
Can we forget the former times
And start again anew.

They betrayed the God they praised
Claimed it was in He they trusted
Yet with racial hatred crazed
Spoke instead of power so maladjusted

Now burnt out ruins lie deserted
New life is built on bone foundations
Like snow that covers what they perverted
New cities rise in transformed nations

A new day grows like the sunshine
That glitters through ice crystal
In this I sense the divine
Making forgiveness official.
