May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

Not everyone's reality is the same
DeAnn Brown, Holly Jahangiri on spacedbuik: My mother is 99. In a nursing home. No inheritance to speak of. Plus, we 3 are in our 60s. No complaints. We're okay.

However, my social security gives me an increase due to cost-of-living... AFTER the fact based on middle-aged-middle-class (not a reality for seniors), and the poorest get almost nothing.

Good point about generational wealth. And consider those who bought homes years ago in an area where prices now boom. Compare Seattle to Davenport, Iowa 1970 then/now. That said, renters are screwed. We don't have the resources to move.

And another comment re the Great Resignation:

Very good points. If a business doesn't take care of its employees and customers it ends up with neither.

Cash only? Take out only? Come in when you're sick? Tips not wages? Cut hours? Be on call 24/7 for a part-time no-benefits position? Irregular schedules at the boss' whim? Call in your order? Delivery only? Only work from home? I realize some customers/workers love these options. Many introverts "thrived" during covid. Not all of us did.

Main Street is dying in this town while only upscale businesses survive. Airbnbs are limiting rental options and owners are greedy (sucking the blood out of the poorest). Wealthy seem to be buying toys like private jets and second and third homes. Hard to work a job when you're homeless by-the-way. Spare me the "they're just lazy". Many folks have been pushed to apply for disability as it's the only way to survive and stay off the streets.

But people also just shifted priorities after reflection. There's no amount of moola that will entice people to be abused and taken advantage of.
