Desert

The sands,
playthings of the wind,
shifted, sighing as they tumble,
and the stones,
drier than dust,
bleached and leached in the heat,
shivered at night,
from the rocky islands
in the waste.

Emptiness that scorched sea,
forever grinding from great
to small,
waves of eternal change
in the vast and timeless reaches
forsaken by Earth.

The sun beats relentless
on this uncaring mirror.

Alone

Here the hermit hides,
seeking the solitary sights
of the silent state.
Without companion,
acolyte or guide,
to face his nemesis,
the self that cries for solace,
noise and chatter to fill
the aching void,
a single soul, prostrate
before his God.

Lost

Perhaps I was always lost,
and wander now to find me.
