False Spring
False Spring

The deceitful wind
blows hot across
the January snowfield
melting the snow
and freeing
the imprisoned flower seeds.

Thinking winter
has come to an early end,
multicolored pastel faces
rise above the meadow's
winter dead stems
to let the sun's warm arms
embrace them.

The voices of birds,
uncertain of the season
intone their joyful songs
only to be silenced
when the foe of winter
releases another blizzard.
