The Dragon Rider
Cool scales,
rough beneath my fingers,
glinting copper in the sun.

Deep breaths
expanding his chest,
the barest hint of ash scenting the air.

Heavy wings
beat an audible woosh
as the ground falls away beneath us.

Anticipation
floods my veins
and I lean forward, urging him onward.

The thrill and wonder
explode in an exultant yell.
I am the dragon rider.
