Playing in the Band

I joined a rock band with some of the guys from work. I have an old Guild electric guitar and a Fender twin reverb amp. We have practice on Saturdays after lunch in the basement of the drummer’s house. I show up, and we have to wait for a couple of the guys, they had to work half a day today.

Everyone finally shows up for practice. Tom, a supervisor, asks why I wasn’t in work today. I tell him they don’t have any budget for overtime in my office, in fact with all the cutbacks, I’m lucky to still have a job. He tells me I should put in for a job in his department; they always work overtime. I tell him I’ll have to look into it. (Although I really don’t want to. I’d rather not work as much overtime as they do.)

We set up for practice. Our PA isn’t working, so we hook the mikes up to my amp. The vocals don’t sound very good, but it will have to do for now. We’ll have to get the PA fixed before the gig next Friday night.
