Love is precious, but it's also difficult, and it has it moments of insanity.

The Flower Maiden

John thought that to thwart me in all my transactions
Would force me to bow to his unholy passions.
But although we are poor my family has pride
No matter the outcome I won't be John's bride.

These serious matters drag on week after week
John seems determined to make me temperate and meek
And I, equally firm I will be resisting
No matter how long John continues persisting.

My flowers are lovely. My buyers sustain me.
No matter what John says in condemning my fee.
John is correct that a man may stop here to gaze
But he won't get more for the coins that he pays!

John should stop his whispering of foolish tales
In spite of it, I'll do nothing to halt my sales.
He has sent his mother, his father, and sister
I've told them I'll never take John as my mister.

I won't stoop to marrying a butcher's son
Though he sends me his family and everyone
I require much more than this simplistic life
A man must be rich to make me his wife

Here he comes once more with that stupid wedding band.
Oh no! What girl is that who has hold of his hand?
My John! How dare she think to steal John from me
I shall tell her at once that my John's not free!
