Love is precious, but it's also difficult, and it has it moments of insanity.

The Colors of Your Soul

I can feel the nature of you;
I think I know your pain,
for inside me are similar hurts
and the same throbbing ache.
So we share and we talk,
and within us something shifts.

Thus, we journey far beyond
the thoughts of our exchange.
It takes us even closer
to the place where lovers roam;
down the funnel it leads us
towards the colors of our souls.

Imagine the sky
on a fall morning rising,
when the sun spreads light
across the blue horizon.
Paint it a soft and rosy blush;
trim it with streaks of tangerine.
Melon juice is spreading out
and sweet cherry flavors
leak across the sides...
Such are the varied hues
in the colors of our souls.

Drifting, drifting
In this anchorless space
Neither me, nor you...

The sharing connects us
in that place deep within,
the multi-colored spectrum
that lies within our souls.

But both of us are wary
of getting close again.
So carefully we pull away
and hide from spoken words.
Then the craving down inside us
attracts us back again.

Once more we open up,
exchanging secret pains.
Thus do we commence again
the spiral leading down,
down to the colors,
the colors of our souls.

Will we let the possibility
Of what our hearts would ask
Overrule the security
Of the private worlds we've built?
Can we supersede these walls
with the shakiness of emotion?

Is it possible to open
this passage in between?
Dare we allow the thoughts
that couple us together
to blend fresh hues
inside the colors of our souls?

Drifting, drifting
In this anchorless space
Neither me, nor you...

Yet we resist and we struggle
And still the questions rise:
Should we allow entwinement
to curl round our separateness?
Are we truly brave enough
to link our lives together?

But, we have shared so much.
Our hearts are not the same.
Maybe we should ask,
how can we not attempt
this joining together
of the colors of our souls?
