MONEY WORSHIP: a sonnet
MONEY WORSHIP: a sonnet

[A man is respected only as long as his pocket is full.]

Why did I have to come across the day
When I’m alone, I have no company?
My friends have all suddenly turned away
Forsaking me in my final journey?

At one time I too was much sought after
When people vied to come along with me.
Their smile to me could not have been brighter;
For them I was the ideal to be.

Why all my friends did discard me and throw?
They were not after me but my money.
But now that I have all of it let go,
They find a pauper’s company funny.

Money is a big evil Jesus said.
Yet worshipped by man it is, it’s so sad.
