Conformity

I have watched the latest movies,
heavy dramas with sink holes of guilt.
Like some shared encounter group,
now I can boast that I've endured.

Likewise I borrow and buy the newest novel
by those authors of "the must-be-reads,"
so I can mingle in the chicken roosts,
and converse with all the fowl.

These are the dues to not receive a label:
"unfriendly" or "slightly weird."
But when my obligations are fully paid,
in my leisure I am free to soar.

Stealthily, like chocolates eaten in the night,
away from prying eyes, alone within my room,
I dip into the classics and savor
deeper levels and the poetry of words.
