The Weekly Contest

You pushed your nose into the air;
It called forth the birds,
Which sat and squawked upon it,
But you never noticed.

Your chest grew big and bloated.
It rose outward like a building
As you crossed your arms and smirked;
How contently you sat.

And all the while I watched,
Silent as a corner spider.
I entered in the contest, also,
But I had no high hopes.

Then they called your name.
You strutted up there,
Looking right and left.
You waddled like a duck.

They called my name, too.
I cast my glance about,
Too surprised to understand.
I can't believe I beat you.
