The Williwagga
This is the story of a good monster.

This is an illustration for a poem about a strange being who soothes.

The Williwogga

The williwogga is a creature that’s really very rare.
Although you often spot him in the dreams you have at night,
If you see him in the daytime, you would think he was a bear.
For williwoggas change their shape so you won’t get a fright.

The williwogga’s favorite food is not what we would eat.
Inside your picnic basket is the thing he loves to munch.
It isn’t chips or chocolate cake that’s such a special treat!
It’s the silly tablecloth that he would eat for lunch.

The williwogga dotes on candy. He eats it every night.
His mother never scolds him. She hands him even more.
His cotton candy toothbrush must be quite a sight,
But when his teeth are good and clean, he hides them in a drawer.

The williwogga loves to sing. I think you’ve heard his song.
His voice is in the wind at night when trees are clapping loud.
And when a storm's a-brewing, he sings the whole night long,
But when the night grows still, he curls up in the clouds.

The williwogga likes to visit whenever your dreams are bad.
He eats up all your nightmares and tucks you back to sleep.
So if you see him in your dreams, remember to be glad,
Because the williwogga keeps you safe and sound in sleep.
