Grief
A young girl loses her beloved father and grieves.

Grief

He closed his eyes and slept.
No warning, no goodbye.
Her father passed on today.

So the daughter sat in a corner
Staring at the wall and memories
And weeping with silent tears.

Her mother fluttered about,
The perfect party hostess
Inside a starched, black dress.

Charlie, her younger brother played,
Throwing hoops throughout the day
And fighting with his best friend.

Sam, the older brother got drunk
And threw up all over the kitchen floor.
None of the relatives scolded him.

The daughter's dress was pale and lifeless
And matched her reddened, weepy eyes,
As did the strings of her long, limp hair.

As she stared at the wall and memories
Because her father passed on today.
