The Loss of Friendship

                   I came to you in peace.

                   But although I told you,

                   You never believed.



                   I explained against your wall of doubt.

                   I tumbled words to pass through barriers.

                   They flapped like wounded birds.



                   Always, your barricade of disbelief

                   Excluded our friendship and your trust.

                   My words toppled against it, gasping.



                   I cannot speak in the tongue of your anger.

                   And from these hurts of my injured effort,

                   My words have died, their breath now gone.
