Mercurochrome
Red
liquid
in a glass
bottle was my
Grandmother’s cure for
for every sting, cut, scrape
scratch, bite, and gash I received.
The minute she heard me screaming
or saw my wounds, she got the bottle
and placed a drop of the stinging-burning
fluid on each gash, sore, wound, or lesion.
I watched the crimson solution stain
my fair skin, as it seared the germs
that threatened my abrasion.
Mercurochrome, Grandma’s
favorite weapon
to her battle
to protect
me from
germs.
