Music makes my muses dance
April 11, 2012, Wednesday, Day 11 ~ 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is "Has music ever inspired you to write or to create? Suggestions: If so, what music inspires you the most? Any particular song(s) or artist(s)?"

Music makes my muse dance; it also makes me want to sing. The very thought of a song gives me ideas for poems. Sometimes the ideas lead immediately to a short stanza and at other times, the idea sets in a journal for a while until I find the lines to express the feeling.

Music relaxes me. I like to set with my eyes closed and listen to the music. I have tried to write poetry while I listen, but I cannot focus on the music while I am writing words. I have to listen to the music and then write poetry later.

The music that usually leads immediately to poems are the songs of birds. There are a great many birds in the neighborhood. This spring they sing every morning. Here is a recent entry from my poetry journal:

Haiku of the Day:

Half moon in the sky
A choir of birds serenade
At dawn on hump day
(Poetry Form: Haiku; Line Count = 3; Word Count = 15)
(Wednesday, April 11, 2012 about 6:14:28 AM Pacific Time)

Notes about this poem: I went outside to roll the trashcan to the curb and pick up the paper. A half moon was high in the sky and all the birds in the neighborhood singing.

About this form: Haiku is a 17-syllable unrhymed 3-lined Japanese form. Traditionally haiku covers themes about nature, season, or weather. Normally, this type of poem has no punctuated and no title.
