The Ugly Duckling
Good Morning*Umbrella*

I hope all is well with everyone, *Smile* It is wet, wet, wet here. It has been raining all night, and expected to rain all day and tomorrow. The main thoroughfare linking Bakersfield to L.A. is closed due to snow and no telling when it will reopen. But Hey - *Smile* it could be worse. Hwy 99 north and south and Hwy 99 east and west could be closed due to snow, isolating the valley completely. That has happened in the past. So I will relax, listen to the rain, and write. *Smile*

I have been thinking of todays prompt. I have many favorite fairy tales but the one that really touched me the most was The Ugly Duckling. I suppose this true because it was one I could identify with. I feel there is far too much of passing judgment in the world today for what ever reason. Be it the way someone walks, their beliefs, or an impairment (invisible or visible) to eye. Some people feel that if someone doesn't fit in to the category of what they define as normal, they are less of a person with no feelings. When I was in college, I was given an assignment to write a poem to write a poem based on my favorite fairytale. Though I have already posted it on WDC and many of you may have read it, I would like to share it here:

I May Be Different

Icame into this world
imperfect and confused,
as to why I was rejected.

I didn't feel different, I was like
everyone else - I dreamed, I cried,
I loved.

I was shunned, teased, and
mistaken for a freak, when it was
not my physical appearance, but
my physical short comings that were feared.

I do not fear or judge you.

In the end as I soar high and
achieve my dreams and dance
and rejoice, I look back and
I see you. Different - as you have not
progressed into the world of acceptance.
