My Grandfather's Advice
Show Me Your Poetry & Win! Prompt: Use: monkey, donkey, and balloon

My Grandfather's Advice
“Don’t give a balloon to a monkey,”
My grandfather incessantly sang.
“A monkey can bray like a donkey,
But the balloon always pops with a bang.”
This poem took me almost forever
To learn what it truly meant.
You see it really is quite clever,
If you give it the time to ferment.
The balloon is the wish that you choose,
The monkey the one who prevents it.
The noise that he makes will confuse,
If you don't realize he's a hypocrite.
Monkeys say they'll help you to see,
But they only pretend to buy lunch.
They deprive you of 4:00 o'clock teas
And steal your balloons as they munch.
