A Writer’s Cramp (24 hours/40 lines or less) Prompt:The isles of Samoa and Tokelau are skipping the day of tomorrow - they decided to change the date line, to make business easier with Australia and New Zealand. But there is one person, who will celebrate his/her birthday on Dec 30, but is unable to do so; due to this change. Write down how this person is dealing with this... Birthday Theft My birthing day has just been stole. The officials formed a great big hole in all the special planning that I did. What meanness to an innocent kid! A cake Mom probably now won’t bake. Chocolate icing I bet she doesn’t make. No birthday party’s ever gonna happen. No presents in colored party wrapping. Where my ninth birthday was to fall, officials exxed it out with tiny scrawls. And now my special day won’t never be. Pure catastrophe, can't they see? No party hats worn my day this year. No candles to blow, no wishes, I fear. Simoa just ignored my earnest plea. Why did they choose to rob poor me? My brother says it’s really funny, but I bet a mile-high pile of money he wouldn’t keep saying that if it happened to him, The Rat. Dad says relax, that I shouldn’t sweat it, but my class is gonna call me the Dimwit when my birthday passes, and I miss it. That’s enough reason for a bit of a fit. After all, I’ve been waiting all this time, month after month, what a long climb! A year seems more than half a lifetime. Dear Mr. Lawyer, isn't theft a crime? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 28 lines ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
