Wraiths of Time

"[ I fear] a cage. To be stay behind bars until use and old age accept them
and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire."
~Eowyn  The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Wraiths of Time

A caged bird stands
On the grave of dreams
And warbles an aria

He remembers a time
He lived without bars
And life was an opera

Now trapped in a prison
His life not his own
He trills a mournful refrain

But as days go by
And weeks become years
His ballads are all the same

He feels safe in his cell
And his youth slips by
No longer something to see

His cage now his throne
His silence his crown
He forgets what he wanted to be
