Painful Memories
What were you doing and where were you on 9-11 when the twin towers were attacked?
Waking up in Wyoming (two time zones) it was still early and my roommate called me, “Come quick! See this!”
On a small-screen TV, I watched a replay of the first tower being hit, and then shortly after the second tower was hit. It all seemed hard to believe, like part of an action movie. I don't remember the news reporters hysterical narratives. Then the first tower exploded and began to come down---faster than I could believe. These are huge towers. Then the gigantic rolling clouds of dust. The building turned to dust! Then the second tower came down, just like the first. Then I was certain this had to be controlled demolition. We saw similar take-downs before, all televised as exciting events with much talk about placing explosives and the intricate timing required. The horror of the event is burned into my memory.
The questions about the cause, the perpetrators, the failures, the deliberate omissions and overlaying stories that never match...are never answered. The event of 9-11 has caused enormous changes in both American and world societies. Nothing has been the same since that day. I mourn the loss of innocence and pray for the illusions to be dissolved into truth.
Peace. >>>iggy
