Blog City Prompt: "I had such great plans..." Back in 1958 I auditioned for the national touring company of the original production of West Side Story. In all probability I would be cast as Baby-John and work with Jerome Robbins choreography on a national tour. That really was a great plan! I was a good dancer and performer and ready to take that on. As it turned out, upon returning home from this amazing day, I had an envelope in the mail. "Greetings! You are ordered to report for induction into the United States Armed Services." I was just 22 years-old and the draft was working well. So instead I trained in Kansas, Texas and was posted to Germany for the duration of my service time. I worked with a great group of other 22 year-olds. We all were college graduates. I never returned to a chance on Broadway, but had a very satisfying career as a dancer, choreographer and director for many stage productions. Plans change for unexpected reasons. I learned very quickly to adapt. Adaptation is a skill to develop in this weird world we live in, you know? Peace. >>>iggy The WYRM GAUNTLET starts October 4th |
