The military barbers have no sympathy. They took handfuls of his thick, curly blonde hair and pulling it tight from the scalp, ran the powerful clippers through it like a knife through butter. His youth fell in clumps around him and to the floor. The fine clippers finished it off at a quarter inch, no less. From a distance the blonde did not show and he looked shaved. He didn't feel like a man, but they yelled at him that he would be in two painful weeks.

Some of us have had that experience.
