The Wanderer
The Prompt from FlashFiction.net - Two hundred is the number of my children they say; myself, I have lost count.

Two Hundred is the number of my children they say; myself, I have lost count. I may never know as all my children have long since gone.

Left alone I wander the permanent starless night, my feet crunching on the long dead Earth. I find myself by the lake again, the cries start when I touch the water, it's the same every night.

I wonder if I have gone crazy. The cries remind me of my children, I stare into the lake and I stare back at myself, a smile on my lips. Yes, my children, long since gone.
