Backpacking Europe: Day 8
Monday, August 8, 2016

I'm glad I'm with a group because if I were by myself there's no telling where I would end up. As I've said numerous times before, I'm directionally challenged, which means I have no idea which way north, south, east, or west is located. I'm usually fine when I'm in familiar territory because I know the landmarks. However, I'm not in familiar territory; I'm not even in the United States. I realized when we were arriving in Monaco that I didn't know which direction we took from Montpellier. Not that it really matters because I stopped knowing which direction is which in Barcelona. I presume that people here in Monaco are as nice and helpful as they've been so far and will direct the poor little old tourist lady in the right direct is she gets lost.

Japanese Gardens

Refreshing and cool
with Koi (nishikigoi) entertaining
tourist.

I wish I could identify the different types of flowers and trees. I saw one purple and white flower that was absolutely beautiful. It reminded me of a flower I had seen before, but I couldn't remember the name. I also saw a red flower with striking green leaves that I would love to grow. Perhaps I should say attempt to grow because I don't have a green thumb. I love to have flowers around me, but I can't grow them. Then again I don't do a good job growing vegetables. I think I should stick to walking through Japanese Gardens because the flora is safer with me looking at it then it is when I attempt to grow it.

Oceanographic Museum

The ocean is beautiful
with a multitude of alien species
we land dwellers can only see
in aquariums and ocean museums.

At the Zoo

I went to see the animals,
the animals, the animals,
I went to see the animals
At the Monaco zoo.

Why else would a person go to a zoo except to see the animals? Unless you're going to a concert played by the musical group The Animals. We didn't see the musical group but we did see a lot of animals. Some animals I didn't expect to see, however, since this zoo in in a European country I suppose I should have expected to see some animals from the United States.

The tom turkey was beautiful, one of the best specimens of this species I've seen in a long time. I also like the black swan, I've seen them before but not very often. Other birds I like are the peacock and the flamingo. The transulia sent chills up my spine which is usual because all spiders send chills up my spine. I can look at them in zoos without getting too upset. The problem is that after seeing one I could dream about them. I'll have to find out what spiders mean in my dreams.

La Note Bleue

I could wax poetic about the food at La Note Bleue. Of course I can always wax poetic about food. Even though I don't consider myself a gourmet I do enjoy eating food from all over the world. I like to try unusual dishes to see if the recipe is one that I like immediately or if it's an acquired taste. If it's an acquired taste then I attempt to acquire it.
