Thank you Whata SpoonStealer for the beautiful purple awardicon that graces my blog cover! DAY 1831: November 20, 2017 Prompt: November 20 is Universal Children's Day. Write a story, poem, or blog entry about children. Established in 1954, United Nations Universal Children’s Day promotes international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide, and hopes to improve children's welfare. UNICEF and organizations like Feed the Children strive to better the lives of children worldwide, but if you watch the TV news or do a search on the internet it seems like we're fighting a losing battle. We've all seen the pictures of children sleeping and begging on the streets. More than 250 million children live in countries where there is armed conflict. Thousands of young boys, if not millions, are forced to serve as soldiers and many young girls are raped. Canada is one country that has opened our arms to refugees, but many still live in refugee camps waiting to come. We do our best, but there is too great a need. Here at home abuse occurs in homes, schools, and sports events within our communities, by parents, relatives, teachers, and coaches. All people our youth think they can trust. Today, Universal Children's Day, we all should pray for a better future for children everywhere, but prayer is not enough we need to get involved in whatever ways we can to help these kids. I think together we can change things! Until next time, River |
