December Thoughts

December is a cold month,
Even in Nevada,
In Oklahoma it was a snowy month,
But I was a child,
I spent Christmas and New Year's Eve
With my grandparents.

In December my memories smile
At the sight of building snow people
And snowball fights.

If I want to play in the snow here
I have to go to Mount Charleston.

The First Sunday in December 2017

It is the first Sunday in December 2017,
I contemplate the beauty of the month,
Snow on Mount Charleston,
The December full moon,
And festive decorations.

The full cold moon,
This year is a supermoon,
Can you imagine
What super cold moon
Will look like.

Wear Brown Shoes Day

Today
Is wear brown shoes day,
But I don't have brown shoes to war.

I have black shoes,
And purple house slippers,
But I don't have a pair of brown
or semi-brown shoes.

It's wear brown shoes day,
What am I to do,
I can't go out
Without a pair of
Brown shoes.

Red Skies: Memories of a December Dawn in Oklahoma

Rust colored mornings
Eased the boredom of waking as
Dawn scatted its joy.

Sun caressed clouds,
Kissed the firmament blue as
I stepped onto the cold linoleum
Expressing my gratitude and
Singing light's praises.

The Walled Garden

In a stone walled garden
By a round wading pool
Resides a tall, slender red Yucca
Next to a scarlet flowered dwarf bottle brush,
A few feet away Sago Palm grows
Surround by an Ocotillo,
A stand of decorative deer grass,
And a cherry laurel.

All proclaiming
The beauty of the desert.

Desert Sunset

The desert sunset highlights
Tantalizing cactus gardens growing
Agave, prickly pear,
San Pedro, flat leafed Indian Fig Cactus.
And rosemary.

Sol's evening rays play
In backyard gardens:
Kissing Bougainvillea blooms.
Transforming deep green Cannas leaves
Into emerald images of mystery,
Caressing Canary Island Palms,
And variegated American Agave.

Meditation Nooks

Meditation nooks augment desert landscaping:
Mexican blue fan palms line hidden walks,
White flowered Yucca peek over shorter fans,
White blooming green bottlebrush
Spill onto curved garden paths,
A green Fortnight Lily guards concealed ponds,
While soft leaved Asparague Fern caresses the stone.

Tranquility echoes
The silence of meditation,
As a new day begins.

Spirituality

Soul's mirror reflects,
Polished by tests and difficulties,
Illumination
Reaching it from the divine realm -
In adversity, give thanks:
Thankfulness, appreciation for
Uncountable blessings showered
At all times and under all conditions
Light the spirit with love's rainbow -
In prosperity, philanthropy:
The blessings that we give away
Yield roses in paradise.

Love defined on the Second Sunday in December 2017

The dawn of a new day,
Rising rosy over hills of gray.

God's eternal light,
Giving hope through the darkest night.

The generating impulse that began creation,
And set the universe in motion.

Late Autumn Dawn

Dawns light
Penetrates my retinas
Burns holes in my brain
And releases the pressure that demands
Another hour of sleep

Dandelion

Love is a dandelion,
Planting itself in your mind,
A clever dandy lion,
Manufacturing your goal.

December Inspiring

December
Is inspiring,
Not because
Of the winter holidays,
But because
It is my birth month.

Memories
of December's past
Always encourage
Poems and prose.

Steam Dragons

Steam dragons rise
From smokestack wombs,
Frigid air severs
Their umbilical cords.

Free to fly
Wherever they choose
Steam dragons
Merge with the new born light of dawn.

The Lord's Return

Hidden in the clouds of glory,
He has come,
With then thousand angels,
He has come.

Poetry: The Start of Something Wonderful

1

What was there before the big bang?
Magnificence reverberations.

2

Joy reverberates
Echoing God's Most Great Name
Obedience-love.

3

Grass changes
As the seasons progress:
Spring's new growth foretells
Death's cold fingers
Penetrating winter's desolate fields.

Prayers rise
Out of the fields of summer
Generating autumn's harvest.

4

The perfect storm
Washing away everything
Expect the Beloved.

Motivational Monday: December 18, 2017

It's motivational Monday,
The day I state my goals for the coming week.

It's motivational Monday,
The day I begin achieving this week's goals.

It's motivational Monday,
Six days until my 71st birthday.

It's motivational Monday,
Thirteen days until 2017 ends and 2018 begins.

It's motivational Monday,
I need to clean off my computer desk before the end of 2017.

Living a Baha'i Life

To live a Baha'i life
One must live one day at a time.

To live a Baha'i life
One must strive to live as Baha'u'llah commands.

To live a Baha'i life
One must take one step at a time.

To live a Baha'i life
One must intone a teaching prayer each day.

To live a Baha'i life
One must plant seeds one heart at a time.

Winter

The first day of winter approaches,
And the temperatures fall
Toward the single digits.

Will winter solstice
Bring us the first freeze?

I check the temperature app
On my phone,
It reads 55 degrees
As lunch time nears,
But last night
The temperatures descended into
The mid 40s.

On the Eve of My Birthday

On the eve of my 71st birthday,
I contemplate the last five years,
And my plans
To visit Mama's grave
On my December 24.

On the eve of my birthday,
I think about how much
I miss Mama,
How much I miss celebrating
My birthday
With her.

On the even if my birthday,
I sigh
When I think about
Commemorating
My birthday
At her grave.

Thoughts on the New Year

Seven days until the end of the Gregoria year,
Eighty-seven days until the end of the Badí or Bahá'í calendar,
I have a great deal planned for the coming weeks:
Go away fear!

I place everything in Baha'u'llah's hands,
Because alone I cannot accomplish any goals or plans,
I know that God may have many things in mind,
Therefore, I place everything in His hands
And the hands of His Glory.

Baha'u'llah is the Glory of God,
The reflection of the Divine Unknowable Essence
To humanity.

The Last Motivational Monday in 2017

It is the last motivational Monday in 2017,
It is our last chance to motivate ourselves
To accomplish our 2017 goals, resolutions,
Or whatever plans we made on January 1, 2017.

It is the last motivational Monday in 2017,
It is time to review the goal-resolutions
We mad at the beginning of the year,
And determine why we didn't or did
Accomplish them
Over the past twelve months.

Merry Christmas,
And Happy New Year.

Counting Down to 2018

Two days left in 2017,
No time to finish this year's resolutions,
Review, reestablish, or make them anew.

Do you remember January 2017,
The thrill of a New Year
And new resolutions;
It's time to step something new,
With renewed hope.

Blessed Be: A Poem

Blessed be
The lovers of humanity,
Those who see
Its unity
Beneath the rainbow
Of its diversity.

Kintsugi: A Poem

I am
A broken piece of pottery
That the Beloved has repaired
With the gold
Of the forgiveness
Of my sins.
