🥇 Fatherhood
Fatherhood
*Ribbon* A daily winner for May 24th

He smiles upon his child with pride,
helping newborn and his wife inside.
He’s amazed at how this makes him feel -
no fantasy, it’s now all real.

All settled in, the baby cries.
Dad sees the look in his wife’s eyes
and says, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.
You rest. I’ll see what is amiss.”

“He likely needs a diaper change.”
He hears the words, they sound so strange,
but he’s committed to the task.
No need for help (and he won’t ask.}

He sees the table, diapers too
but he is game to see this through.
How hard can changing one kid be?
The thought fades before reality.

With steely-eyed determination
along with nasal-tinged oration:
“How can such a tiny person reek
and make such a mess from cheek to cheek?”

He hears soft laughter from his wife.
“Welcome to our family life.
There will be days – both bad and good
on the road to Fatherhood.

Oh, and the wipes are on the left.”
Wipes?
