Magnify the scope of perception

Recently, I recieved some letters with magazine cuttouts and such telling of Dark gods that will be returning and government conspiracies and such. I didn't know where the letters came from, so I opened them carefully, hoping there weren't anything dangerous in the packages/letters. I made sure to open them from the back side. I even left the house and made sure there wasn't any powder or anything there. Of course, I opened the packages anyway. I was living on the wild side and a sucker for a good story.
