A poet's vision
penetrates the mist of time,
the fog of history,
and the Stygian darkness of interstellar space,
to creatively interrupt the events
of past,
present,
and future.

Memorial Day
Decoration Day

My grandparents called it Decoration Day,
and, every year,
Grandma would make crepe paper flowers
to put on the graves of the honored dead.

Every year,
on Memorial Day weekend,
Grandpa would take us
to graveyards
across two or three states
to place the flowers
on the graves of the honored dead.
