Dogs and Cats I Have Known

Puppy:
To Specs

She approaches each child in turn,
playfully enthusiastic.

Each movement of her bobbed tail
wags her entire rear end.

Completely oblivious
to all other priorities,
her tail wags harder
with each stroke,
as each child
caresses her long brown and white coat.

Walking Specs

Leashed energy
tugs at the brown leather strap
pulls me forward.

Distracted
by the scent of another dog
on a blade of grass,

she pauses
deposits her own scent
and moves on.

Friendship

Reposing
in perfect harmony.

Specs
dreams doggy dreams,
while Beauty
purrs contentedly.

Muffy

Black and white Halloween cat,
Lays curled on her master's lap.

Aging Cat

Whisker by whisker
She turns gray before my eyes
He black coat unchanged

Window cats
sat on the screened in back porch
watching the rain.
