Monolith
Monolith

I hauled the bounty
that fed the nation’s growth.

I struggled across this land
carrying a burden of dreams.

I carried soldiers, rations,
bullets, and freedom on my back
during war.

I carried husbands, wives,
and children
of all races,
of all religions,
into a land of promise.

Now I sit,
my brawny frame rusted,
my strength dissipated
by time, by neglect.

β€œA rusted memory,”
I’ve heard.
No!
A reminder of our
greatness,
a memorial of our
journey to today!
