A Fascinating Life versus An Interesting Life
Entry five of ten for "The Bard's Hall Contest.

This entry was inspired by the "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise prompt for Day 1639. "In order to lead a fascinating life, one brimming with art, music, intrigue and romance, you must surround yourself with precisely these things." Kate Spade What is your take on this?

A Fascinating Life versus An Interesting Life

What is a fascinating life? According to Collins English Dictionary fascinating is an adjective that describes something. Fascinating refers to an item, place, individual, or creature that "...you find it very interesting and attractive, and your thoughts tend to concentrate on it."1 To me, this means that a fascinating life means something different to each individual. In addition, it suggests something that boarders on an obsession or that a person is very attached to.

In the past, I described a lot of things as fascinating, which I didn't become attached to. Therefore, they probably weren't as fascinating as I thought at the time. I enjoy listening to music, I enjoy reading and writing poetry, I enjoy reading the sacred scriptures, I enjoy reading about numerous other subjects; however, I don't think I'm attached to them. The possible exceptions are the sacred scriptures and poetry.

I would rather live an interesting life rather than a fascinating life. According to the Cambridge English Dictionary the definition of interesting, in American English, is an adjective referring to something "holding one’s attention"2. A person, place, creature, or item can hold an individual's attention without that person becoming attached to it. I think an interesting life if more fun and exciting than a fascinating life.
