The Heart Firefly
My heart is a firefly,
off to dance and glow in the night.
The smothering dark may try
to keep me down without my light.

Catch the flashing beam.
Smear the dusty, glowing flare
upon your hand to gleam.
Release the bug. Appendage stare.

Dove shines white in dance
among the snow of firefly stars.
Hope bursts night at glance
like bottled sunbeams cast in bars.

The night, so black and cold,
erasing sight from wond'ring eyes.
One flit from bug quite shim'ring bold
makes darkness run and seek to hide.

My heart's the timid firefly.
It flashes on and off and on.
Of Evil's fear I cry,
one flame of Courage and it's gone.
