Self-Delusion
Self-Delusion

How fickle is the hand of fate?
Mere mortal plans go oft astray
as endless love turns into hate
in silence as our hearts betray.

Mere mortal plans go oft astray
when cowardice lets feelings die
in silence as our hearts betray
the vows we’ve made but now deny.

When cowardice lets feelings die
dissolving lifelong partnerships,
the vows we’ve made but now deny,
they lie like ash upon our lips.

Dissolving lifelong partnerships
we find our hearts become austere.
They lie like ash upon our lips
the remnants of our deepest fear.
