Visionary Poetry

This is the poetry
of boundaries drawn in pencil,
of boarders sketched lightly--
then erased--
between matter and spirit,
between life and death,
between the lover and the Beloved.

This is the fire that consumes--
in the soul of the poet,
and the mind of the lover--
the barriers to unity.

This is the prayer that rises--
like incense from an alter,
or smoke from a pyre--
to escort the living into paradise.

This is both wine and manna,
intoxication and sobriety,
science and religion,
evolution and creation.

This is the sacred,
the holy fire
that penetrates the shell of illusion
to reveal the meat of reality.
