Leaves

In our Spring we were new sprouts
tender and almost translucent
waltzing in the wind from our loft,
Over time we transitioned into summer,
strong, solid, vibrant, taking in the sunlight,
providing shady protection for our family.
In time the autumn arrived and our colors
turned with surprise and a subtle energy
to golds and reds and our surfaces
side by side began to line and crack.
It is now Winter and we have fallen
from our limb onto the hard cold ground
wrinkled and torn we lie together
leaning on one another
until we will crumble into the earth as one.
